Update

Here we are again. I've resolved some of the issues with the figure and brought some richer color into the background but I'm already rethinking the design of the sky. The lightest light and the darkest dark should be around the head which it isn't also I don't like the fencing being flat in the background despite having drawn it that way in the sketch. Tomorrow I should have sorted this out. Stay Tuned.

This is awesome!!! The refinements you made to the face from the previous post gives the cowboy a personality. You draw the figure amazingly well. I'm always impressed with the type of ability you posses. Also, thanks for dropping by my blog.

I love he power of the figure and yes, the refinements to the face are really working...I am sure you will get the fence fixed to your liking...the hardest part appears done. Thank you for stopping by my blog and becoming a follower!! Much appreciate it..

Yes Steve, good to see your process on the blog.

I agree that the face has evolved nicely. He has this look of quiet and restrained strength now.

I just am so thankful that a successful artist (you!) is generous enough and confident enough with his ability to share his process of changing and editing. I learn so much.

What size do you work in Stephen?

Hey, thanks everybody, I'm always happy to see new visitors to my sight and always happy to find new sights to visit, thanks for stopping by.
I've just finished the painting and I'm really happy with it and it's not often I can say that. I'll be posting the final version tomorrow and sending it off the the art director.

Sheila- this painting is on a piece of illustration board 15x20 inches, I used to always work at 20x30 inches but as I've been doing more work in my sketch books I've gotten more comfortable at smaller work.

Fabulous picture. I'm copying Steve Hall here, who is always pointing out your wonderful pictures, especially the ones in bars (hm, there's a pattern emerging). I'm really struggling with a landscape portrait (sounds like an oxymoron!) at the moment - you couldn't finish it off for me could you? :-)
