Sarah Step By Step
I built up the values pretty quickly here, I was trying to preserve the cool to warm/blue to orange and keep things loose, I was trying to choose my hard and soft edges and keep a sense of spontaneity. I've been often accused of missing some good stopping places, but when I'm enjoying a painting it can be very hard to stop.
This painting will be on display at the Society of Illustrators from June 9th-August 15th. Or join me for the opening on June 17th.

Eye
This is an odd little painting done the size of a trading card for the Society of Illustrators members open. Not quite sure what all this is about.

Drawing Event
Every year, my friend Joan Chiverton organizes this event for the Society of Illustrators that involves sketching dogs for a $20 donation that goes toward the fight against cancer. It is always fun. We were out in a park on the upper east side from 9-12, beautiful sunshine, great people and no end of silly dogs to draw. Better yet I was joined by my Friends Bri and Alison.

Mad Men Finish

This is a bad shot of the finished painting that will be on display at the Society of Illustrators for the month of December. Pop along and have a look. The theme for the show is red and there should be a great many cool painting and illustrations for you to take in.

Dog Walk Against Cancer Day

This is my 3rd year at this event. Joan Chiverton arranges a group of artists from the Society to draw dog portraits to raise money for the event, it's always a good time, trying to draw dogs that have no interest in being drawn. It was a beautiful day and we were in Riverside Side Park overlooking the Hudson River and when all was said and done we strolled down to the boat basin for lunch. Not bad, as Sundays go.

The Rat Who Would Be King
Here is the finished painting for the Fragile Earth show. Tho colors are not true but this is how it showed up from the scanner, I could have played in photoshop to try and match but that's me. I really had fun with this one and look forward to seeing all the other work created for the show. There will be an opening so I'll let you know about that. Everybody loves landfill. You can check out the rough I did for this one by clicking HERE

My Drawing Class

I had such a great day at the Society yesterday teaching a class on drawing to these young art students. It was too much fun to call it work, I'd do it all again today if I could. I really think I got more out of it than they did and I think I might have met some of the sketch bloggers of the future, it was so great to be around these kids I just want to do more. In the mean time, back to reality.
