Final Sketch

The art director liked the last sketch 5 but wanted the crop to be less tight, so here it the final step before going to the finished painting.

Well so much for my new start in posting, what can I say, I got busy. Here will be a series of sketches for an editorial assignment that I was thrilled to get. I'll post a sketch a day for the next few days and then a step by step of the finished painting, here we go again.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Ok, loads of drawings, no postings, no excuses. I'm going to start posting again as of today,  sketchbooks full of drawings to post and paintings, book covers etc etc. As I say, no excuses, time to post again. Hello world, thanks for waiting.

Ian McKellen

Last one for a while, as far as I know, this one from steps 1-6 was done in two hours with cheap gouache which I bought at the university book store having left my paints back home (groan). I have to say that the cheap paint performed very well, 12 tubes for $8.50 not a bad starter set. The final step was done at home in an additional 30 minutes, I was tempted to keep going but that defeats the object.
