This was a demo for my class at FIT this Monday, I wanted another go at Bowie because his loss weighs heavy with me right now. Gouache in light layers working to dark and then then opaque layers working back from dark to light.
Hi everyone, this post has been a long time coming, blogger had decided that I wasn't me for a while and I wasn't entirely sure I disagreed. This is a test posting, I'll be catching up with loads of drawing and painting soon, starting tomorrow, WOW it's good to be back.
Where have I been? you probably haven't been asking, well I'll tell you anyway. I've been doing loads of painting like this, these have been keeping me busy. Anyway, I've been doing a lot of sketching as well, I'll be posting them as of tomorrow.
I built up the values pretty quickly here, I was trying to preserve the cool to warm/blue to orange and keep things loose, I was trying to choose my hard and soft edges and keep a sense of spontaneity. I've been often accused of missing some good stopping places, but when I'm enjoying a painting it can be very hard to stop.
This painting will be on display at the Society of Illustrators from June 9th-August 15th. Or join me for the opening on June 17th.
Here are 5 steps for this latest demo, the issue with these demos tends to be not to over do them in terms of finish, keep them loose, move them quick. it's a question of sorting out the major values and working the whole painting up at the same time.
