Cherry Tree

is the name of the tavern we were at last night. I reverted to the sketchbook again because I was trying to knock off a quick one before anyone else got there. I'm carrying loose paper with me from now on though. This bike is out in the back yard off the Cherry tree.

It's Angie's Birthday.

This is a study of Angie in watercolor. The look of concentration.on her face is due to her arranging our holiday photo's on her lap top. Angie wanted me to lay off the ruling pen for a while, it is her birthday afterall.

Susie & Ed's Cabin

is in Highland lake, it's a great escape from the city and we've had some great times here. Peaceful and remote, a great place to work or....not.

Angie

I'm real happy with this one. It's my first posting that wasn't done in a sketchbook. I'm using a good quality paper and I'm not having to fight with the gutter of the sketchbook. From now on I'm mostly going to work on loose paper, it feels better. Your thoughts?

Hammock

We are up in Sullivan County and this is what it looks like when Angie leaves the stress of the city behind.

Old Town Till no 5

I havent drawn this till for a while and I like to come back to this subject every now and again to see if I 've learned anything. What i learned on this occasion is that the paper quality in Moleskine sketchbooks is in rapid decline. Time for a change.

Trump Bar

On 57th & 5th. First time therebut a great place for an after work drink. This is a guy called Mark who left before I could get much of a likeness. Probably overworked this one but I was waiting for Angie and just couldn't leave it alone.

Moving Truck

Our friends Hanna and Keith moved to Park Slope yesterday. I had to do a drawing to mark the occasion , I also lifted a couple of boxes. The thing that is synonymous with every move is, of course, beer and pizza.

Grand Army Plaza

Built as a kind of gateway to the Brooklyn countyside. That countyside is long gone but Propect Park is just beyond the arch.

So this is the final holiday post, we leave too early tomorrow so thanks for checking in and of course I'm still going to post a drawing a day but from now on they will have more of an east coast feel. Almost looking forward to getting back

San Fransisco is a great place to finish up the trip. Had dinner with David Grove last night which was such a treat. Went to his house and saw his studio and loads of his paintings. He is full of supprises.

The Mission Ranch is Clint Eastwoods resturant in Carmel, unfortunately for Clint, he wasn't there last night so he missed us. You can't have everthing can you. On the road again today, last stop San Fransisco.

Rock House

Okay, so I missed a day, it was bound to happen sooner or later. The Big Sur is quite remote but truly fantastic. This is the house we were staying at, It's in a place called Gorda on route 1. We have just arrived at Carmel. I off with Iain to check it out while the ladies are getting manicures.

Tree Nightmare

this one kind of got away from me.

The Big Sur

3 postings today, I didn't expect to make any because we are pretty remote, but we drove back down the way, such is my commitment. That and we needed a liquor store. I think you can tell by the sketch that we're starting to feel the San Fransico Chill. Hope to post again tomorrow. Thanks for staying tuned.

Our Trusty Rental

This is the car we've all been driving since Vegas (Vegas seems along time ago now).
15 miles to the gallon. Ouch!

Santa Barbra

Hotel Del Coronado

2 posts today. The Hotel Coronado was in Angies favourite movie "Some Like It Hot" so it was a must see. It did not dissapoint. If ever your in San Diego you should swing by for a pint in the bar featured in the previous post.

Hotel Del Coronado Bar

Got the chance to squeeze in a bar drawing. This might be one of the most beautiful bars I,ve had the privildge of a pint in. On the road agian today.

On the Road Again

2 postings today. Iain was driving to San Diego so I had about 3 hour to kill. I have learned from experience not to use pen and inks in a moving car and definately not in a rental.

Palm Springs

We hit the road again on the 4th of july but stopped at Palm Springs so the ladies could shop. Iain and I found this great little bar for a beer and I drew this view from the balcony. We beat the heat, Angie and Gillian, not so much.

Grand Canyon

To call this the Grand Canyon is actualy not only an insult to the Grand Canyon but to canyons in general. It is, that being said, where we were yesterday and your sketch of the day. Next stop, Palm Springs.

Casino

I'm posting 3 sketches today. Only in Vegas for one day and It's just not possible to capture the madness. We pick up a car this morning and head for the Grand Canyon hoping that nobody filled it in during the night.

Iain @ The Palm

Iain wins for best sunglasses. We tried to walk from the Belagio to the Palm yesterday. (those familiar with Vegas will understand the folly) We got saved by a bus driver who took pity on us and dropped us off.

Palm, Vegas

The trip nearly killed us but the beer never tasted better.
