Au Contraire

About 10 years ago I used to do a bit of stand up comedy, I never got very far it's such a tough job but I got to know a great bunch of guys many of whom went on to do well. Christian Finnegan was one of the guys I used to do shows with and his star is very much on the rise and deservedly so and when he asked me to do the cover for his second comedy CD and DVD Au Contraire I jumped at it. The show airs on Comedy Central tonight at 11pm, past my bedtime but since it's the weekend I might stay up. Actually I'm going to watch it with the man himself at a party in Manhattan. What a life.

Lookin' good! Hey, Stephen, I want to thank you for inspiring me to take my sketchbook out of my house. I've been hitting bars and pubs (just like you only not as talented) and made new friends. All because of sketching, people notice it and buy me drinks....well, not all the time but it has happened!...any way, thanks again for showing me the way.

How cool is that? He has your art prominently displayed (twice) on his website! Soon to be seen by millions I'm sure.

For some bizarre reason, this illustration makes me think of "Socialist Realism." Maybe that's a Finnegan joke.

Memi- thanks, I really made this about the drawing.

Michelle- I was fortunate enough to have Christian come to my studio and we set up the shots, was really specific.

Emikk- I'm so delighted to hear that. I want to see what you are up to. The free beer thing is really great when it happens. The best moment came for me when someone bought a drawing right out of the sketchbook. The first time I ever when to a bar and made a profit.

Nancy- I had a lot of fun with this one.

Stephen- Thanks, it's my first CD cover, I always dreamed of doing one for Pink Floyd.

Sheila. I was surprised to see the painting used on the TV show as part of the intro, it's a really funny show you should try to catch it.

Pyra- You are right on with that, Christian showed me some old propaganda posters that he wanted the painting to feel like.

Nice work. Your bud was pretty good, too.

Hey Jeff, I only sigh paintings to give the art director the chore of removing my signature, they got to earn their money somehow. I'm glad you saw the show.
