First Day

Here is my first day painting on the cover. I try to get the whole thing covered so I get a general feel for the overall image, from here on it it will be about refining and adding detail.

Book Jacket Rough

This is a sketch for my latest book cover assignment, I usually do at least two sketches and up to four but last time the art director chose my least favorite sketch and I ended up struggling with the finish, this time it was a one shot deal and I'm working on the finish now, I'll post it in stages of completion.

Just like England's chances of ever winning anything. I saw this woman on the subway and I'm not exaggerating how thin she looked. I've had a couple of days off from posting due to mt hectic World Cup schedule. Actually we are upstate and I have not had a chance to get on line and then USA lost and then England lost and then Mexico lost and then Slovakia lost and then Chile lost and then I lost the will to draw, England couldn't manage to do much more than draw but at least I'm not French.

Got this one yesterday on the way into the city. This is a pointless statement.

Waiting For The Game

This is the big day for England and the USA, it all starts in about half an hour. I was at the Society last night and so was this young lady.

I'm on a bit of a roll with this brown paper and charcoal pencil business and it's cheap paper as well so what's not to like.

Why the disdain? He's just seen his beloved Azure held by New Zealand. Laugh, I almost brought a round.

Watching The Match

Yesterday was horrible as far as England goes.

Friday, June 18, 2010

This young lady is routing for England today, I know because she told me on Tuesday night whilst I was drawing. She spent many years in Liverpool "Happy years?" says I. "Many years". says she. Come on England!

Not a World Cup drawing but you can tell he's thinking about it.

The great white hope?

I think this is how Robert Green must have felt as he watched the ball trickle over the line, it's certainly how I felt. I don't blame the goalkeeper for this one and England should have been able to score again to get him off the hook. Friday will put us back in the driving seat. Italy won the world Cup in 82 after drawing their first two games.
Being an American citizen, I also want the US to go through and do well. I pray we don't meet again though.
See my friend Larry's World Cup post HERE, It really is a World event.

World Cup

Here is sketch of Siphiwe Tshabalala scoring the opening goal of the 2010 World Cup and a splendid one it was too. I've got World Cup fever but I'm taking medication.

Here We Go Again

I've posted this one before but it just seems to fit to well not to post it again. I did this drawing after England got knocked out of the World Cup four years go, I will be doing another version of it this time but as of yet we are still alive, barely.

And Again

Come on England!

Friday, June 11, 2010

I went to a drawing class at FIT last night and did a group of head studies like this one, expect to see a few more in the upcoming days, that is if I don't forget to blog due to World Cup fever.

Sad Dude

This dude needs a happy meal or maybe he just had one. I like it when I can draw loose like this, it doesn't seem to happen very often.

Alternate Side Of The Street Parking

Here we go again, there are times when I can use the time to drive somewhere intersting and do a landscape but, as with today, it's not always possible.

Two Dudes

On there way to fun and frolics, it's the weekend so why not.

Super quick but I liked it.

Sharp Contrast

To yesterday's post. I'd rather be gazing out at the lake than looking at the back end of this thing but it was, once again, alternate side of the street parking day.

My Favourite View

This is a watercolor I did whilst sat on the porch of our favorite house upstate. We visit this place when ever we can and I love to sit on the porch and stare off into the distance. This is my first attempt at a pure watercolor painting in a big moleskine watercolor pad, it's about 23 inches wide.
