Old Town Bar

I'm sat at a booth for this drawing giving me a rather splendid view of the bar, one not afforded when sat at the bar. The Old town bar features the oldest working dumb waiter in New York, the waitresses however are far from dumb and utterly charming.

A couple of life studies from a class at FIT a few months back. It's Saturday morning and I'm in Beacon preparing to go back up to the fair, it's cold and raining, I love it.

Dudette

It's Friday and there are a great many tired commuters out there. As for me, I'm off to the Duchess County Fair to do more caricatures with my old pal Eddy, it's raining and I'm felling good.

Landmark Tavern

I had to revisit this place for the project, it had been out of sight out of mind but then the frequency with which I visit bars has much to do with proximity. This place has been going since 1868 and is located at 11th Ave and 46th st, which used to be the waterfront.

Rudy's

There was some serious drinking going on in here at 2.15pm on a Tuesday, not many takers on the free hot dogs though. I sat there taking it all in from a booth that had been handily repaired with duct tape. My kind of place.

Now here is a dive for you but a dive with a difference and the difference is free hot dogs. Ninth ave between 44th and 45th, cheap and cheer full, I'll have more to say about this one later, I'm working on sketch I did whilst inside at the moment.

Ear Bar

Back to the bar book, the Ear Bar on Spring St at 11.45 on a Monday morning, the bar tender reads the paper as he waits for a customer other than me.

Almost Gils

This was another attempt at cousin gils, not the best but I'm slowly building to my master piece which I'll title "Absolute Gils" as a tribute to the fact that i finally got it right and to the massive amount of vodka Gils has consumed over the years.

And the rhyming titles continue (thanks Pyra). I think crude sums up the style of this one, once again fast and loose on the 5 into Manhattan. I'm hoping to catch a few more today before the weekend.

This was from sketch night some time ago, a twenty minute pose I did in the back of my sketchbook and forgot about. I was happy to find it again and now it's sketch of the day. life is sweet

Society Of Illustrators

This was a 10 minute sketch from the patio at the Society as I was waiting for sketch class to start. Real Quickie, this one.

Old Ford Tractor

We are back from Highland Lake but I managed to draw this fantastic 1951 ford 8 end tractor again and this time I met the owner Alan who keeps it in pristine condition and mows his lawn with it. I drew the same tractor last year which you can see by clicking HERE.
It's a beauty and I hope to have another crack at it soon with maybe a little more time on my hands.

Self Portrait

I did a bunch of self portraits and this according to Angie is the least scary. The thing I enjoyed about doing self portraits is I have no pressure to flatter so I just go at them no holds barred, they make for a gruesome collection.

Gils

my cousin Gils, I've drawn her on many occasions and this might well be the best so far but there is always room for improvement. Onwards and upwards good people of the world.

I drew this hotel last year in pencil, the manager shot a waitress here sometime ago or something like that.

Angie

This is Angie, my wife and pineapple slayer. I was really pleased with this drawing, I caught her while reading, the fact that she was reading a book of cocktail recipes somehow passed me by. Life is full of these bitter ironies.

Pineapple

This is a pine apple, this is what pineapples look like. I wondered around with this thing for a couple of days contemplating a drawing and eventually came up with this one. I had grown quite attached to this pineapple and when I came across it slain on a cutting board I was a little taken aback. There it was, slaughtered in the name of a pinacolada. I don't like pinacoladas, I did, however like this pineapple.

Cars

I don't know how I keep coming up with these titles but I'm on a cosmic role right now. These two cars are the one we rented to come upstate with that would be big enough to take 8 people and our own car that wouldn't. I have faith enough in you to know you can determine which is which.

Iain is my brother in-law once removed and twice incarcerated, actually the latter is not true but he did think this drawing made him look a little sinister.

Actually, Theresa but Angie calls her Trees and since it's her sister It's her prerogative. The top drawing a my pencil sketch and the bottom is my trying to work out my caricature style for the gig at the end of the month. You may be seeing a few more like this. Also I didn't post yesterday for various reasons but think I back on schedule for the moment at least so 2 drawings today.

Game Boy

This is Sam playing Nintendo Ds, Star Wars. We were both up early this morning so it was a great start to the day.

This is Sam's dad Jason on the computer catching up with work and allowing me a sketching opportunity.

Sam

I've been off line for three days but I'm back now and will resume the daily sketches, I'm away on holiday upstate with family and hadn't drawn until yesterday. This is my nephew Sam and a handsome lad he is too. I'll be drawing everybody at some point as well as doing caricature drawings of everybody in preparation for the next gig with Eddy. I love it up here and will try and sketch some of the local scenery over the next couple of weeks.
