Gowanus Canal

This is the Gowanus Canal at the point where the F train crosses it. At least I think that's what it is. I do so love industrial ugliness.

I agree - industry and decay has it's own unique beauty. Lovely sketch, Stephen.

You are right, old industrial buildings and structures are often very interesting. I like the composition of your sketch, the way this bridge appears as a great door in a wall made of iron, with the city beyond the treshold.

I love industrial ugliness. But it isn't ugly to me. I wish I could draw more of it. It's hard to get a vantage point to draw from in an industrial area. I like to draw construction sites too.

Thanks everyone, I'm trying to get out when it's not too cold so I hope to have more like this soon as it's my favorite subject matter.

Fraser, this was done with a ruling pen dipped in ink and a water brush with a touch of water color.

This is a fabulous industrial sketch. I am very envious of anyone who can capture the scale & essence of industrialisation.
