I'm not even going to attempt getting into McSorely's tonight, I'm sure it's going to be packed tight. Have a great evening how ever you choose to spend it and I wish you all a happy new year.
is the book I bought Angie for Christmas, she really enjoyed it and finished it already. You should go to Barnes and Noble and buy it, it's written by Stewart O'Nan.
and these two gentlemen retreat to the pub to discuss their unbelievable good fortune. New socks and underwear abound and 2008 looks like being a winner.
This is Matt, he's one of the many regulars at the Old Town Bar, I could tell you many tales about Matt but for a glimpse you should go to YouTube and search for Macky's Jolly Christmas. It's festive to say the least.
As promised I found safe haven in a bar, no nudes here. The guy seen drinking the beer didn't like the guy in the white shirt, it was a very uneasy triad but enjoyable non the less.
These are subway drawings of which I have multiple filled sketchbooks, these I did yesterday on my way into the city. It's turned realy cold here but people in hats are fun to draw.
Here is another look at my new favourite bar. This also represents a new direction with the work although I'm not quite sure of what that direction is. Ultimately I'm putting together a collection for a book and exhibition.
yesterday we went to the Klimt exhibit at the Neue to get inspired and then to the Met to do some drawing. We sat on the balcony and ordered a bottle of wine and got busy.
Lunch time trade at Bill's. The day time bar tender's name is Tom and he is as good as it gets, I'd draw him if he'd keep still. 54th st between Madison and Park, do yourself a favour
This is another view of the White Horse Tavern from the dinning room at the end of the bar, you can see the door in the first drawing so I'm sat on the other side. All I'm thinking about when I see this is that the chap in the blue shirt with his back to us hasn't heard from his daughter in a while.
wireless service has forever changed the landscape. Social solitude is how Angie put it. i went to two such places to draw yesterday and didn't buy so much as a bottle of water or say a single word.
Is on Hudson St and 11th. yet another of New york's landmark bars and the place in which Dylan Thomas drank himself to death (18 whiskeys). Originally built in 1817 it became the White horse in 1880. Great light for drawing. As with most of these great bars, I like to get there around opening time, choose my spot and watch the locals turn up.
A quick linear study done during lunch yesterday. As I've often said, I find it hard to keep things simple so this one made me happy. Also Bill's, on 54st is another of New Yorks great bars and former speakeasy, I'm thinking of giving my own bar tours.
Can't say enough good things about this place. It opened in 1854 and survived prohibition. Reeks of history,a must if you live in New York or if your'e a tourist, which is why I don't go near the place at weekends. Best sampled during the week at lunchtimes when you can see the place for what it is, a living museum.
this was done really fast, just to see what I could do when I thought I wouldn't have time to do anything at all. I caught my reflection in the mirror behind the bar, yes I'm really that suave.
England's football team manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Business as usual as these likely lads will attest to. England duly sacked their manager after failing to qualify for the European Championship next year. Managing England is a thankless task, talking of which, Happy Thanksgiving.
This drawing represents a kind of love story, a man who's seach has come to an end, enters the world of eternal bliss. Well, maybe not eternal but certainly for the next couple of hours for we all know bliss can be fleeting.
As per your requests I'm posting Angie's drawing below. We've got one more class at the Natural History Museum on Monday, after that I guess we'll have to draw the cat's.
