Another Mother

my mum didn't like the first drawing I posted of her so I had another go and this one has her complete backing.

Everyone's heard the Sargent quote "A portrait is a painting with something wrong with the mouth"...Well, If the great master was criticized, what chance do any of us have?

He also said, "Every time I paint a portrait I loose a friend." I took that to mean, be careful who you draw....I drew some family members once and my brother called me later that day demanding a redraw.

Not knowing your mum, I can only say that it looks like a believable, living, breathing person. Nice drawing!

I applaud you for sticking with these portraits. I hate doing them because nobody sees themselves (or others) the same way you do - a no win situation really. I never heard that Sargent quote before, but I agree, mouths are tricky and totally change the face if even slightly off. Kudos Steve, you're getting better by the day!
