Color Study

This was the first thing we were asked to do in class, other than stop flicking paint at each other.

Finished

That's the end of the first class of the MFA. I'll miss it, I feel like I could have gone on forever. I will be continuing to oil paint though. Good times.

Last night

I've got one more session with this pose but last night I sorted out most of the major issues, still plenty to do though.

Here We Go Again

This is the first night of a three night pose, I finding this one a real challenge. You'll see it again tomorrow and hopefully I'll be in a better place with it.

Over the last few weeks I've wasted so much oil that I've taken the pressure of BP, all in the name of progress of course. Here is one of my subway sketches just to break things up a bit. Happy Sunday good people of the world.

Homework

Here we go again, this is my first pass at this scene, I probably won't get another shot at it until next weekend but this represents the kind of image that interests me.

Finished

That's a wrap on this one. Next week we have two models and a three night pose so look forward to that one starting Monday night. I'm going to keep this oil thing going, when I came to America 20 years ago it was to learn to paint in oil, better late than never.

Oil Study

These were done last night in one session using a larger brush. We have two nights on this pose so I'll finish up tonight. Larger canvas, larger brush, broader strokes.

Last Session

Here is where it ended. I find oil to be quite difficult to manipulate but we start a new pose tonight so I'm keen to see if I've learned anything. Having a good time with it.
Really, I would need to do about 20 more like this to get a real feel for the medium.

Here is yet another oil study Ive started, I'm working from photo I took some years ago and this is the kind of scene I really want to concentrate on. We'll see, I'll post the next step tomorrow.

Oil Study

This is a painting I'm working on in class, we have two sessions left on Monday and Tuesday. I will post it at both stages. I'm going to use this class as a platform to start oil painting. I want to do a collection of paintings of Brooklyn, the world doesn't have enough of those, I'm sure.

Dead to The World

You don't often get to see anyone this deep in sleep, snoring and all. Oh joy.

Ava

Ava is the daughter of our friends Simon and Olga, we had all spent the day watching and then celebrating Spain's World Cup victory. Ava allowed me draw her whilst she was reading later that evening. She was a great model, barely moving a muscle.

Color Sketch

This is a color sketch in oil that was part of our homework assignment. It deals with color matching and not drawing which is why it looks a little abstract. Class tonight.

This Is It

Subject to the art directors approval. I took into account all your comments and thank you all for taking an interest. There maybe more work to do yet, I will keep you posted so to speak. This morning I'm thinking go Spain because I'm watching with some Spanish types, it I had to predict a score it would be Spain 11 Holland 10 after extra time, I'm never wrong about these things.

Duffy

I've been a bit patchy with my postings lately because I've just started an MFA course at FIT. The good news is that there will be plenty of great things to post later on. I'm currently taking an evening class in oil painting and will be posting all the paintings and studies that go with it. In the mean time here is a chap called Duffy and a more splendid chap you could not wish to meet.

4th of July

This is not very festive but he might be on the way to the best 4th of July BBQ ever, I hope that is true of you.

New Arm

That's the only real change on this one. Come along people, don't spare my blushes.

Day Two

I'm starting to solve issues within the painting in terms of marrying different reference sources. Trying to keep the lighting consistent is important when using multiple shots and also when making stuff up. so to speak. I really enjoy this process.
