Sketch Crawl

This was my first sketch crawl and it turned out to be a great day. We met at the bar Vazac's at 2pm and got stuck in, so to speak. There were six of us in attendance including Bri, Peter, Mel, Steve and Juliane. After a good drawing session that included Bri and I both doing a drawing using a stick of celery (I'll post that one tomorrow), we moved on the the Sidewalk Cafe. It was a good days drawing, drinking and chatting about art. This is my new record for links in a single post, what a day.

Self Portrait

Here am I furiously sketching my reflection in the window of a subway car when there was no one else available (I'm not even my own first choice). Today is sketch crawl And I'm off to meet some fellow sketchers in the city. Tune in tomorrow for those results.

Another Snow Day

I didn't have a snowy painting for you but here is at least an icy scene for you. Mark Messier getting the job done for the Oilers. Great day to be indoors.

Angie

I did this yesterday on the train and Angie says it looks nothing like her. It's not a strong likeness but I can see enough of her in it to make me smile.

I didn't think either of these drawings were strong enough to post by themselves so I'm posting them together. Why the orange background? I did it out of a sense of boredom and frustration, which is the same reason the chicken crossed the road in my opinion.

I blogged the lady on the right a few days back but then last night on the train I noticed a guy who I could draw sitting next to her and god bless him he slept the whole way. Life is too good to me sometimes.

Dude Of The Day

Is this a face you can trust or what? I certainly hope so, he just sold me a new Toyota.

Teaching

Yesterday I got a chance to spend the day at the Society of Illustrators teaching these kids the joys of drawing. I did it last year as well and look forward to doing it again, it's a blast. We had a great model who really went to town on her costume and just check out some of those sketches.

Bag Dude

Dude with bag, bag dude. If he had been in Baghdad he could have been 'Bag Dude In Baghdad". Oh well.

Darwin Awards Finished Illustration

I guess the title says it all on this one but just in case you are in any doubt this will be the book cover probably out some time next year. I did the last two in this series although I noticed recently that they have been attributed to Uldis Klavins. I have to check into that.

The Other One

This was the other drawing I did at the Cradle Of Aviation whilst on a caricature gig about two weeks ago. We were stuck in a hanger and had a brief moment of quite whilst dinner was served so I was able to get this much done. I know it's valentines day but nobody tells me when to get romantic. Fortunately Angie agrees with this sentiment so I get away with it. I'm romantic on the other 364 days of the year and take this one off. Have fun, good people of the world.

It's Saturday morning at 8.30 and Chelsea are 2-1 up against Cardiff in the FA cup, deep into the second half but does this lady seem to care?.........I think not.

Another One

I'm not going to post them all but since I'm on the theme here is another trading card. Come on Upper Deck, let's get busy.

Trading Cards

During 2008 and 2009 I had a lot of fun painting trading cards for Upper Deck. If I'm fortunate I'll get the chance to do it all again. I think I did about 80 such cards. You can learn a great deal about painting during such a project. Trying to do more with less was one of the things I was concentrating on with this series, that and trying to work out color.

Fed Up

This dude looks well fed up, I'm all like "cheer up sunshine it may not happen" and he's all like "It already has" and I'm all like "worse thing happen at sea" and he's all like "we're not at sea" and I'm all like "let's turn that frown upside down" and he's all like "get the hell away from me before I call the cops" ......oh the fun we have. It's a snow day and I'm all like "let's build a snowman" what are you all like?

Reader

Nabbed this one yesterday on the way into the city. Drawing makes commuting tolerable.

Angie is desperate to have a dog but our cat's keep voting the motion down. Such is life.

Yesterday I posted the drawing of the woman and later that day I did the drawing of the guy on the opposite page, they looked so comfortable together, how could I split them up? Happy Sunday good people of the world.

A couple of dudes sleeping on the 4 train late last night, I missed my stop whilst doing this drawing, I hate that.

Rat

Thanks for the input yesterday, I went with version "B" and painted up this comp. I'm not entirely there yet but this is the level of doom and gloom I was going for. I'm really try to learn this whole color thing at the moment because it will be the difference between success and failure on this one. I still want to hear from you but then I always do.
