Helen

This is yet another magazine commission, this was my 9th attempt to draw this portrait, the trick is to keep the hand moving and also it takes a few versions to know what to leave in or edit out. I often send 3 finished versions in varying degrees of detail to give the art director a choice. That's just the kind of guy I am.

It's hard to strike the perfect balance between spontaneity, acuracy and capturing a likeness. When working on a commissioned piece, I too like to do a many drawings before I feel comfortable with said balance.

I think you have the perfect balance here. Good job.

Larry, thanks so much for your comments, I really appreciate your visits and your insight, I'm still using the Sargent quote you gave me.
Thanks Again.
