This one was a trial, the skin tones were very cool and I took a little more time to sooth out the values, I was sweating a little with this one.

Finished Book cover

So here it is, I very much enjoy the process from start to finish, I'm hoping there will be more in this series. Life feel so much better when I'm painting.

Color Comp

This is the final stage before going to finish, the black and white comps could be taken in so many different color combos, so it important to let the art director know what you're thinking so there are no surprises when the final art arrives.

This is a revised sketch based on the art directors comments, It's a much stronger version of sketch one.

So happy to be back in the class room, here is my first demo on the season. Gouache built up in transparent layers, in the final stages I am using thicker opaque gouache, fat over lean goes the saying.

This sketch is based on the Brooklyn Inn on Hoyt and Bergen, a grand old bar if ever there was one.

Finished Painting

The finished painting, I love doing these tight renderings, very satisfying.

Colour Comp

I always prefer to do a colour sketch before I start a painting, It lets the art director know in advance what to expect from the finished painting, it also helps me figure out the direction so I'm not second guessing myself all the way through.

Tighter Sketch

Here is a tighter version of the first sketch, this was the idea they went with so I needed to make sure I knew what was going on for the final painting, tomorrow I'll post a quick color comp.
