I Don't Know

This is the first sketch in a new subway sketchbook, I've been finding it difficult to get out sketching lately with the demands of work and school but I'm keen to get back into a routine. When will this be? I don't know.

This is probably it for this one. I must say I struggled to pull it together and I certainly learned a few things. On to the next one, who's up for a pint then?

I'm having one of those days where all I want to do is paint but life keep getting in the way. Here's hoping.

Still Going

This has been a bit of a struggle and I'm not there yet but I feel like it's about minor adjustments from here on in. One of the things that will pull this through is the lighting and I will be able to start thinking about that now. This has been a real learning curve.

Getting a little closer now but still a ways to go. No dude with a bag on his head but he still looks like he might prefer one. I can see what needs doing so hopefully I'll have some time today or tomorrow to get at it.

The next step, I'm still working on the drawing aspect of some of the characters but I'm solidifying the parts I'm more sure about, anything can happen from this point on, well not quite anything but plenty non the less, it's been a long day and that is way too many commas for one sentence.

Mad Men Finish

This is a bad shot of the finished painting that will be on display at the Society of Illustrators for the month of December. Pop along and have a look. The theme for the show is red and there should be a great many cool painting and illustrations for you to take in.

Clay Sculpture

This is what Sunday's class yielded. I added a lot more volume to the skull in an effort to make the sculpture look more like my drawing. The last shot is a kind of rouges gallery featuring the work of my MFA colleagues.

Here is another blast from the past. My posting has been a little spotty lately, I've been working hard but have had little time for sketching. Happy Sunday good people of the world, I'm off to class again today to finish my sculpture from yesterday's post.

Here is a bit of fun, I was in class last night working on this chap and will be again on Sunday. I never worked like this before and it is by no means easy. I'd like to think I'd do more of these, says the guy with 4 unfinished oil paintings in his studio.

I made this guy up but I was looking at the work of Charles Bragg at the time, I'll be making a plaster model of this chap over the next few weeks so I'll be posting my progress on that one. The big news today is the my wife Angie is running the NYC marathon so I'll be out and about cheering her on. She's some kind of woman.

Art-Lifer's

This is my first and quite possibly my last comic strip, it's base on me and my friend Edgar (who came up with the term art-lifer). There is no reference to the fact that we are both artists in this strip but what the hey. I showed it in class and nobody so much as smiled, that's my sense of humour for you. I was drawing this guy and he kept moving his head so I had a go at his hands, then he starts moving his hands so I shifted back to his head and so on and so forth. Such is life.

Roland of Gilead

This is the end of the Roland series. In answer to some questions, this series was for a college assignment, we were asked to redesign a fictional character and since I was well into the Dark Tower series at the time I chose our boy Roland. It was fun but as with all good things, they must come to an end.
