I do love the Brooklyn Street life. After 15 years of Manhattan living, Brooklyn is a refreshing change of pace. And, if you can believe this, a holiday destination and the name of David Beckham's first born. Too much.

South Street Seaport

This is a truly great place to draw because there is something going on everywhere you look. I have to find time to spend a whole day there at some point. Time is always the problem, of course.

Stair well

These stairs are right outside our appartment door. They are quite a drawing challenge because of all the angles. I'm sure to be drawing them again because the light at different times of day can be quite dramatic, I just have to be there to catch it.

To change things up a bit I'm posting a couple of sketches for a book jacket that I'm doing. this is tyhe second book in the series, I did the first one about on year ago. With any luck I should be painting one of these up by the weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Fruit Stand

Just a quick study of a fruit stand in Barryville. A sharp contrast to yesterday's tonal drawing of the Mill.

Mill

This mill is at the end of the high street in Narrowsburg. It dominates the skyline and harkens back to another time. I'm sure to have another crack at this one at some point. Below this post is Angies next painting.

Angie paints in oils

Angie started her painting yesterday as I was working on sketches for a book cover, when I was finished I drew her whilst she was working. She bearly knew I was there and her painting is posted under this drawing. It's going up in our kitchen if I get my way.

This is Angie first ever oil painting. She was so excited about it and she's already started oil painting no2.

Back to the triple

A bunch of my fellow MA grads from FIT were at the Triple Crown yesterday after picking up artwork from our capstone show. Yet another milestone. Once I've learned how to add links to this site I can show you who they are and what there up to. A great bunch.

Drawing 100

So they were still filming as I left work yesterday so i took advantage. My 100th post on sketch of the day, my first milestone. thanks for checking in. I'm looking forward to seeing what drawing no 200 looks like.

Movie Set

they were filming an Adam Sandler movie at 52nd and Park, I tried to catch some of the madness on my way home. Adam is the one in the blue shirt and the "Barry Gibb" stlye wig.

Cherry Tree

is the name of the tavern we were at last night. I reverted to the sketchbook again because I was trying to knock off a quick one before anyone else got there. I'm carrying loose paper with me from now on though. This bike is out in the back yard off the Cherry tree.

It's Angie's Birthday.

This is a study of Angie in watercolor. The look of concentration.on her face is due to her arranging our holiday photo's on her lap top. Angie wanted me to lay off the ruling pen for a while, it is her birthday afterall.

Susie & Ed's Cabin

is in Highland lake, it's a great escape from the city and we've had some great times here. Peaceful and remote, a great place to work or....not.

I'm real happy with this one. It's my first posting that wasn't done in a sketchbook. I'm using a good quality paper and I'm not having to fight with the gutter of the sketchbook. From now on I'm mostly going to work on loose paper, it feels better. Your thoughts?

Old Town Till no 5

I havent drawn this till for a while and I like to come back to this subject every now and again to see if I 've learned anything. What i learned on this occasion is that the paper quality in Moleskine sketchbooks is in rapid decline. Time for a change.

Trump Bar

On 57th & 5th. First time therebut a great place for an after work drink. This is a guy called Mark who left before I could get much of a likeness. Probably overworked this one but I was waiting for Angie and just couldn't leave it alone.

Our friends Hanna and Keith moved to Park Slope yesterday. I had to do a drawing to mark the occasion , I also lifted a couple of boxes. The thing that is synonymous with every move is, of course, beer and pizza.
