Coffee Shop

the last time I posted a coffee shop drawing I made a comment about coffee shops being like libraries, On my recent trip to the library I was able to buy a coffee. One day Starbucks will rule the world, when you can charge $5 for coffee you can just about do anything.

1413 Lexington Ave

I lived on the top floor of this building for a couple of years in the 90's. Great 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with 2 skylights. Great apartment.

Alterations

on that bookcover from last week. The art director had some valid suggestions and I think it's a much stronger painting now. Looking forward to the next one.

Red Horse Cafe'

it seems to me that coffee shops are the new libraries. only you have to bring your own books and you can talk and buy coffee and maybe a sandwich and if your'e fortunate enough not to be in a Starbucks you can often get wine or a beer. Ok forget the library thing

This is the final painting for the book cover. I finished late Sunday night.

Alchemy

Is on 5th ave in Park Slope. We sat out in the garden yesterday and had brunch. This bike was sitting out back. Bikes are really great to draw because when you draw them they are really great.

Sepia

is a bar in Prospect Heights on Underhill just down from the Brooklyn Library. It's a good place to read the book you just borrowed from said library. The bar doesn't have a kitchen but they have a stack of take out menues you can order from.

Nude

I really like the simple line on this drawing. I don't often exercise this much restraint.

Papillion

is one of my favourite lunchtime places. It's on 54st between Madison and 5th. This is one of a series of studies I'm doing in preperation of a larger painting they have asked me to do that will be hung in the downstairs bar. Papillion has great lunchtime fare and great beers on tap.

Tree

I've drawn this tree before. It can be seen from the porch of the Stanton house and I find myself drawn to it. That is a dreadful and unintended pun.

Yesterday we went to this craft fair near the site of Woodstock. Woodstock? oh yeah I was there man.

Narrowsburg

Mum and Dad are having a great time (this became a postcard all of a sudden). The weather is fine, wish you were here.

The Stanton House

We made an early start on the weekend and are staying at this great house. Should have plenty of oppertunity to do some drawing. I'm currently on the deck of Susie and Ed's cabin stealing WiFi service. I love it up here.

Revised Rough

I agree with the comments I recieved about sketch A being the favourite but the client went with sketch B and this is the revised version (spot the difference).

Dad @ Society

Last night the Society of Illustrators opened to the public again and We took my parents there for Chris Spollens opening and for sketch night where I was able to talk my dad into having a go. He's been doing some watercolors in his spare time and I really wanted him to have this experience. I think he enjoyed it and his drawing is posted below

Flea Market

and on the way back we got stuck in this horrendous traffic jam. One day I'll tell you all about the worst traffic jam of my life on Canal street but it's too soon and I can't talk about it yet.

This Old House

we paid a visit to my freind Edgar who was dog sitting in thie beautiful old victorian house. I spent the afternoon drawing with Edgar while Angie and my parents sat drinking wine and pretending they were at home.

Barnes and Noble

This is the Barnes and Noble at Union Square in Manhattan. My Parents are inside the book store and I'm sure you'll agree, I've captured them perfectly this time.
