Social Solitude

wireless service has forever changed the landscape. Social solitude is how Angie put it. i went to two such places to draw yesterday and didn't buy so much as a bottle of water or say a single word.

White horse Tavern

Is on Hudson St and 11th. yet another of New york's landmark bars and the place in which Dylan Thomas drank himself to death (18 whiskeys). Originally built in 1817 it became the White horse in 1880. Great light for drawing. As with most of these great bars, I like to get there around opening time, choose my spot and watch the locals turn up.

Ulimate Nude

This lady really took it all off. Last night we drew at the Bodies exhibition, they open up after hours some nights for artists to go and sketch.

A quick linear study done during lunch yesterday. As I've often said, I find it hard to keep things simple so this one made me happy. Also Bill's, on 54st is another of New Yorks great bars and former speakeasy, I'm thinking of giving my own bar tours.

Nice Pair

McSorley's serves it's own ale which comes ethier light or dark. It also comes two mugs per order. Fine by me.

Can't say enough good things about this place. It opened in 1854 and survived prohibition. Reeks of history,a must if you live in New York or if your'e a tourist, which is why I don't go near the place at weekends. Best sampled during the week at lunchtimes when you can see the place for what it is, a living museum.

It's not a bar or a nude, normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

this was done really fast, just to see what I could do when I thought I wouldn't have time to do anything at all. I caught my reflection in the mirror behind the bar, yes I'm really that suave.

She'll Not Do

England's football team manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Business as usual as these likely lads will attest to. England duly sacked their manager after failing to qualify for the European Championship next year. Managing England is a thankless task, talking of which, Happy Thanksgiving.

Last Class

Things got a little out of hand at the Museum of Natural History last night. My lawyer has advised me to make no further comment.

Beer Nymph

This drawing represents a kind of love story, a man who's seach has come to an end, enters the world of eternal bliss. Well, maybe not eternal but certainly for the next couple of hours for we all know bliss can be fleeting.

As per your requests I'm posting Angie's drawing below. We've got one more class at the Natural History Museum on Monday, after that I guess we'll have to draw the cat's.

Angie's Bufflehead Drawing

Angie can be quite the bufflehead herself.

Tried something new last night. Failed more often than not but this one worked and I'm going to keep trying this for a while.

Happy Hour

This is a gouache study of a sketch I made during an extreamly busy bar session. I had plenty of time to do a drawing, it took forever to get served.

Old Town Bar

One of New Yorks truly great bars, a former speakeasy, this place reeks of history. I'm becoming quite the historian.

Angie was drawing the building across the street, Chad was drawing Angie, I was drawing Chad and some bloke behind me was bemoaning the fact that he'd left his crayons on the bus.

Drawing 200

I wanted the 200th posting to represent some kind of change. This drawing was done in a new brand of sketchbook with a different textured paper and I used a brush pen with watercolor. Change is always good.
