Foot Long

Come get your foot long, was the resounding cry from dueling vendors. I resisted the temptation but I declair there were times I was so lonesome I took some comfort there.

Idle but Idleing

I kept thinking this tractor would be driven away before I finished the drawing because it was idleing the whole time but nobody was in it or went near it. If anything I over worked this drawing which is a tendency of mine.

book Jacket Roughs

These are a couple of roughs for a book jacket I'm doing. They're the only sketches I managed to do this weekend. Feel free to choose one and I'll let you know what the art director thinks.

Angie's Dog Painting

This is Angie's first non vegetable effort. This dog is a bit challenged but by no means a vegetable.

Me Draw Pretty One Day

It's Sunday and I thought I'd give you a laid back vibe. I've not drawn many flowers and now you know why.

Cluttered corpse

This is the final sketch for book jacket I'm working on and since it was approved, i'll be painting the finish this weekend. I will , of course, post the painting when it's done. I have sketches to do on another book cover so I'll post those at some point. Busy weekend.

This has been one of the longest weeks I can remember, what I wouldn't give to be sat in this chair all day.

People don't seem to know how to dress for dinner anymore.

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

I was on third ave and 7th st on my way to McSorely's when I notice an entire city block has been demolished. As I sit drwaing the Paul McCartney song lyric come to mind, "In this ever changing world in which we live in". Not grammatically one of his best efforts but then he didn't have Yoko backing him up.

Red Hook

Red Hook is in Brooklyn and is right on the water front. It's a great place to draw, there is a lot of development going on and it's a mixture of past and present. I'll be back when I'm better equipped and have more time.

Union Square

I'm at the Heartland Bewery, another great lunchtime spot but when you get out early on a Friday they're all great aren't they? Scroll down to see Angie's next vegetables.

Angie's Oil Painting No3

Angie call this one "Aubergine and Garlic" but she won't tell me why.

Sunday, August 19, 2007

this is a study of a model from Burt Siverman's class during my MA program at FIT. It's probably my first oil painting and Angie suggested I post this today, I'm currently working on an oil portrait that I'll post on completion. Happy Sunday good people of the world.

Two Wheels Bad

As I was drawing this bike I was informed that it wasn't moved on Tuesday and prevented street cleaning. Of course this is all hear say. The bike refused comment.

Lunch Time

Here I am again. the fruit stand from yesterday is behind the Indian cart. As you see youself , a long line for Indain food. I had a Ceaser salad from Preta Mangia, I know you were curious.

Fruit Stand

I tend to cruise these food venders at lunch times in midtown as good drawing oppertuities. You start to see the same people at the same places ordering the same lunches. I'm predicatable myself as far as that goes. Another trend seems to be that there is never a line at anywhere selling fruit. Not a line you'd find me in either.

life drawing at the Society of Illusrators will always be one of my favourite ways to spend an evening.

Jazz Night

at Sage on Franklin and Park Place, Brooklyn. It's a challenge to draw musicians with all that movement and such so i always seem to adopt a loose style. I'm going to be doing more of this type of work in an effort to change my hand. We'll see.

52nd street Food Cart

I've never tried the food here myself but it smells great and there is always a crowd.

Sunday, August 12, 2007

I chose this one because it sums up what Sundays should be all about but so often aren't. This is Angie and her Mum and Dad at the Stanton house in Highland lake.

Park Slope

I do love the Brooklyn Street life. After 15 years of Manhattan living, Brooklyn is a refreshing change of pace. And, if you can believe this, a holiday destination and the name of David Beckham's first born. Too much.

Thursday, August 9, 2007

South Street Seaport

This is a truly great place to draw because there is something going on everywhere you look. I have to find time to spend a whole day there at some point. Time is always the problem, of course.

Stair well

These stairs are right outside our appartment door. They are quite a drawing challenge because of all the angles. I'm sure to be drawing them again because the light at different times of day can be quite dramatic, I just have to be there to catch it.

cluttered corpse

To change things up a bit I'm posting a couple of sketches for a book jacket that I'm doing. this is tyhe second book in the series, I did the first one about on year ago. With any luck I should be painting one of these up by the weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Fruit Stand

Just a quick study of a fruit stand in Barryville. A sharp contrast to yesterday's tonal drawing of the Mill.

Sunday, August 5, 2007

This mill is at the end of the high street in Narrowsburg. It dominates the skyline and harkens back to another time. I'm sure to have another crack at this one at some point. Below this post is Angies next painting.

As requested, Angie's no2 oil painting, She's audtioning vegetables for painting no3 as I'm posting.

Angie paints in oils

Angie started her painting yesterday as I was working on sketches for a book cover, when I was finished I drew her whilst she was working. She bearly knew I was there and her painting is posted under this drawing. It's going up in our kitchen if I get my way.

This is Angie first ever oil painting. She was so excited about it and she's already started oil painting no2.

Back to the triple

A bunch of my fellow MA grads from FIT were at the Triple Crown yesterday after picking up artwork from our capstone show. Yet another milestone. Once I've learned how to add links to this site I can show you who they are and what there up to. A great bunch.

Movie Set

they were filming an Adam Sandler movie at 52nd and Park, I tried to catch some of the madness on my way home. Adam is the one in the blue shirt and the "Barry Gibb" stlye wig.
